A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver this past Tuesday in the Lincoln Park area of San Diego. According to the local police department, the incident occurred on South 47th Street near Solola Avenue at 8:15 p.m. The identity of the 57-year-old male victim has not been released.
According to San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims, the victim was struck by a light-colored sedan which was reportedly speeding southbound on South 47th Street. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. San Diego Police are still searching for the driver who fled the scene after the collision.
An investigation is still ongoing in order to determine all the factors that contributed to this fatal crash. The driver was last seen heading east on Solola Avenue. Heims stated that the suspect vehicle was described as being either a gray or white sedan with black rims. The vehicle may have damage to the front-end, windshield and hood and could also have a cracked headlight lens. A description of the driver was not immediately available.
