A driver was hospitalized after being struck by a big-rig truck on south Interstate 805 in Sorrento Valley on Thursday. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred the morning of March 29th, around 6 a.m., between Sorrento Valley Road and Mira Mesa Boulevard in the city of San Diego. The identity of the injured victim has not been disclosed.
Very few details regarding the collision were immediately available. Officials from the CHP stated that the vehicle struck was a Honda Element. While it is unclear exactly how the crash occurred, the big rig reportedly struck the Honda, leaving it completely destroyed in the slow lane. The driver of the Honda ended up trapped until firefighters were able to pry off the door and extricate the injured man. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
An investigation is still ongoing in order to determine all the factors that were involved in the accident. The crash prompted a SigAlert just before 6 a.m. and all lanes were reopened about an hour and a half later. The identity of the big rig driver was not revealed and it is unclear if a citation was issue.
